Strauss' Don Quixote at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall

Oregon Symphony: Mario Venzago - Don Quixote brings Richard Strauss' vivid tone poem to Portland on April 11, 2027. Led by conductor Mario Venzago, the Oregon Symphony will perform at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, presenting a classical program inspired by the adventures of Cervantes' celebrated literary hero.

Strauss' Don Quixote, officially subtitled “Fantastic Variations on a Theme of Knightly Character,” is known for its colorful orchestration and its musical portraits of Don Quixote and his companion Sancho Panza. The work gives the cello a prominent role, making the solo instrument central to the story's changing moods and imagined exploits. The program pairs the symphony's ensemble sound with a piece that rewards close listening to its expressive instrumental details.

The performance is part of the Oregon Symphony's Portland schedule, with listed dates running April 10–11, 2027. For this April 11 concert, audiences can expect a focused evening of orchestral music in the city's downtown cultural district.
